What We Teach
Statement of Faith
The following teaching statements are firmly held by our pastors, elders, deacons, and lay teachers in unity for the sake of clarity. At the same time, we aim to be compassionate towards the many people who come to NLCF from a variety of backgrounds and are seeking to grow in truth and love.
-
We believe that the Old and New Testaments are verbally, and plenary inspired of God, are written without error in the original manuscripts, and are infallible authority in all matters of faith and conduct.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21
-
We believe in one living and true God, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The three are equal in divine perfection and they execute distinct but harmonious offices in the work of creation, and redemption.
Genesis 1:1; Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 3:16, 28:19; John 1:1-2.
-
We believe in God the Father, Creator of heaven and earth, infinite in wisdom, perfect in holiness and love, and measureless in power. We believe and rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully in the affairs of men, that He hears and answers prayers, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.
Genesis 1:1; Exodus 15:11: Matthew 6:6, 19:26: John 1:12, 3:16.
-
We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal, and only begotten Son of God, conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. We believed in His miracles, teachings and that He lived a sinless life, making atonement for the sin of the world by His substitutionary death on the cross. We believe in His bodily resurrection, ascension into heaven, present high priestly intercession for His people, and personal, visible, and imminent return to earth according to His promise.
Matthew 1:20; Luke 1:34, 35; John 1:1-2, 29, 3:16; Acts 1:3, 9; Hebrews 9:24, 28; I Peter 2:22; Revelation. 1:7
-
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who came forth from God to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and to regenerate, sanctify, comfort, and empower all who believe in Jesus Christ. We believe that the Holy Spirit indwells every believer in Christ, and He is an abiding helper, teacher, and guide.
John 14:15-17, 16:7-8; Acts 5:1-4; Romans 8:1-17, 15:16; 1 Corinthians 2:12, 3;16; Titus 3:5; I John 2:27.
-
We believe that man is created in the image of God to live for His glory forever, that he sinned in Adam, and that all men by nature and choice are sinners having incurred not only physical death but also that spiritual death which is separation from God. Since God is holy and cannot tolerate sin, all men are under condemnation and unable to save themselves.
Genesis 1:26; Psalm 5:5; Romans 3:23, 5:12; Revelation 4:11.
-
We believe that "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life." Therefore, those who by faith, apart from human merits, works, or ceremonies, accept Christ as Lord and Savior are justified on the grounds of His shed blood, freed from condemnation, and given eternal life.
John 1;12, 3:16, 18, 6:40, 14:6; Ephesians 2:8-9; 1 Peter 2:29; II Peter 3:9; Isaiah 53:5- 6
-
We believe in the universal Church; a living spiritual body of which Christ is the Head and of which all regenerated people are members. We believe that a local church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized on a credible profession of faith and associated for worship, work, and fellowship. We believe that local churches were committed for observance until Christ returns the ordinances of baptism and the Lord's Supper, and that God has laid upon these churches the task of proclaiming to a lost world the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We believe that human betterment and social improvement are essential products of the Gospel.
Matthew 28:17-20; John 17:20-23; Acts 2:41-42; I Corinthians 11:23-26, 12:12-31; Ephesians 1:22-23.
-
We believe that we are under divine obligation to contend earnestly for the faith once delivered unto the saints by proclaiming to a lost world the acceptance of Jesus Christ as Savior and the enthroning of Him as Lord and Master.
Jude 3, Acts 16:30, Colossians 3:1-3.
-
We believe that a Christian should live a life of holiness by the help of the Holy Spirit and should seek to realize for himself and others, the full stature of maturity in Christ. We believe that the things God entrusted should be ministered under the will of God for the purposes of Jesus Christ, and in the expression of this stewardship we have to systematically and proportionately contribute to the support of this Church and of the missionary enterprises of Christ's kingdom.
1 Peter 1: 16; Galatians 5:22-26; Ephesians 5:1-33; II Corinthian 8:9.
-
We believe that the Lord Jesus Christ has committed two ordinances to the local church, baptism, and the Lord's Supper. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in the name of the triune God. We believe that the Lord's Supper was instituted by Christ to commemorate His substitutionary and atoning death. We believe that these two ordinances should be observed and administered until the return of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Acts 8:26-40; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:17-34.
-
We believe in the personal and visible return of the Lord Jesus Christ to earth and the full establishment of His kingdom. We believe in the resurrection of the body, the final judgment, the eternal joy of the righteous, and the endless suffering of the wicked.
John 14:3; 1 Thessalonians 4: 13-18; Revelation 20:11-15.
-
We believe that every church is independent and self-governing but is under moral obligation to associate itself with other churches of like faith and order in approved common enterprises that seek the promotion of Christ's kingdom, particularly such as mission, Christian education, and Christian charitable endeavors. We believe that the local church is a congregation of baptized believers associated by covenant in the faith and fellowship of the gospel, observing the ordinances of Christ, governed by His laws, and exercising the gifts, rights and privileges invested in them by His word.
Ephesians 1:22-23; 5:25-27; 1 Corinthians 12:12-14; 2 Corinthians 11:2.
-
We believe that marriage is the union of a man and a woman as husband and wife. We believe that in marriage, a man leaves his father and his mother and cleaves unto the wife, and they shall become one flesh. We believe that marriage is an exclusive relationship, the total union of a man and a woman physically, emotionally, intellectually, and spirituality comprehended by the concept of "one flesh", eliminates polygamy as an option, and is to endure for the lifetime of the two partners.
Genesis 2:24; Matthew 19:5; Ephesians 5:31; Matthew 19:6.
-
We believe that every human being has direct relations with God and is responsible to God alone in all matters of faith; that each church is independent and must be free from interference by any ecclesiastical or political authority; that, therefore, Church and State must be kept separate as having different functions, each fulfilling its duties free from dictation or patronage of the other.
-
Those professing faith in Christ shall, upon authorization of the Church, be immersed in water by the Pastor or someone else appointed by the Church. Baptism by immersion, as a believer, shall be a prerequisite to Church Membership.
-
The Lord's Supper shall normally be served to the assembled Church by the Pastor or a Deacon authorized by the Church, on the first Sunday of each month, or at such other time as may be decided by the Pastor and Deacons, or by the Church, Since it is the Lord's Supper, none that are His shall be barred, but the Pastor shall frequently state the scriptural order, which places baptism as a prerequisite to the Lord's Supper, and shall explain the meaning of the ordinances. The elements shall be unleavened bread and grape juice.
